Obituary published in the Arlington Enterprise on 25 June 1953:

Walter Wieman

Funeral services for George Walter Weiman were held Wednesday, June 17, 1953, at 2:00 p.m. from the Arlington Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. Floyd Kufus, officiating. A mixed quartette consisting of Miss Carol Matz, Mrs. Fred Matz, Earl Bandelin, and LeRoy Breitkreutz sang "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling," "The Lord is My Shepherd," and "Abide with Me."

Pallbearers were Carl Bandelin, George Bach, Otto Wieman, Franklin Wieman, Albert Wieman, and Charles Urban. Interment was in Arlington public cemetery.

George Walter Wieman, the son of John and Johnana Wieman, was born on a farm in Dryden township, Sibley county, Dec. 12, 1891. He attended the rural school and the Mankato Business college. On Dec. 26, 1919, he was united in marriage to Miss Naomi Estenson in her parents home in Gaylord. They set up housekeeping in Henderson, where Walter was employed in a bank. After living there and in other places, they moved to the home farm in 1921, where they lived until they retired from farming in 1951. In recent years Walter has not been in good health, his illness dating backto World War I, in which he was a soldier, reminding us that men are still paying for that war by early death.

He passed away Sunday, June 14, 1953 at the age of 61 years, six months and 12 days. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Naomi Wieman of Arlington; three sons, Don and Earl, Arlington, and Robert, Chicago Ill; two daughters, Jeanne Ardell (Mrs. Vernon Lamb), Tracy and Marilyn of Arlington. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. John Wieman, Arlington, and by eight grandchildren. Also four sisters, Linda (Mrs. Earl Smith), Chicago, Ill, Ella (Mrs. Lawrence Estenson), Barron, Wis., Freide (Mrs. Royal Mueller), Arlington, and Sonora (Mrs. Alfred Dahlke), Arlington.

Walter was a member of the Arlington Methodist church, having been baptized by Rev. J.L. Jahn June 19, 1892, and was confirmed by Rev G.A. Rabe April 24, 1905. He served as a steward and as the president of "Methodist Men." He served his county in World War I and continued his patriotic interest by becoming a member of the Scharmer-Berger American Legion Post of Arlington, of which he was very active, serving in most of the offices and representing the post at conventions. As a successful farmer he was active in the Farm Bureau and in promoting good farming. A lover of nature and of the out-of-doors, he was an active member of the Sportsman's club, in which he worked hard to promote it.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended are Mr. and Mrs. John Estenson, Gaylord; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Estenson, Barron, Wis; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith, Chicago; Bob Wieman, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Asmussen, Mr. and Axel Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Gust Holmquist, all of St. Peter; Mrs. Hilma Nieno, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Heileman, Mrs. Garfield Krasean, all of Hutchingson; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nieno, Ortonville, Fred Nieno, New Ulm; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Asmussen, St. Peter; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nelson, Willmar; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nelson, Willmar; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ludwig, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Lamb and Mr. and Mrs. Art Lamb, Balaton, and Dr. and Mrs. R. Obituary in the Arlington Enterprise, 29 Dec 1938:

John H. Wieman Dead. Age 74.

Funeral services for John Henry Wieman, who died at his home Tuesday morning, will be held in the Methodist church Friday, December 30.

The body will lie in state in the church from 12:30 until 1:30 P.M. Friends and acquaintances who wish to pay their last respects to the deceased will do so at this time. Immediately following, at 1:30, the services will be conducted. Burial will be in the Arlington cemetery.

John Wieman, the son of Henry and Louise Wieman, was born in Jessenlan township on July 2, 1864. He spent his youth on the father's farm, and in 1889 was united in marriage with Hannah Bandelin. Within three months they would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Following his marriage he moved to the farm west of Arlington, which he operated until ill health compelled him to retire to Arlington in 1921. However, his health improved to such a degree that he was able to assume many tasks about town and on the home farm. For ten years he was employed as janitor at the Methodist church, which task he performed faithfully and with a deep sense of personal responsibility.

His recent illness was of short duration. He suffred a minor fall which was followed by complications that produced death. His passing from among us was peaceful, the end coming quietly at 9 A.M. Tuesday, in the presence of his immediate relatives.

Besides his widow there remain to remember his gift of life, five children, Mrs. Earl Smith of Hammond, Ind., Walter on the home farm; Mrs. Roy Miller of Arlington; Mrs. Lawrence Estenson of New Richmond, Wisc., and Sonora of Arlington. Eleven grandchildren, as well as three brothers, Herman of Arlington, Edward and Louis of Donnybrook, N.D., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Barke, of California also remain.

John Wieman was baptized in the Methodist faith Sept 11, 1864 by the Rev. H. Singenstreu, and during his youth attended the Methodist church south of town. In later years he worshipped in the Dryden Evangelical church, but with the building of the Methodist church in Arlington he affiliated with it and in time became a full member.

He was an active nature. He was restless when idle, and took delight in being employed in any task. He took considerable pride all his life in keeping his work orderly and neat. Possessed of a keen and critical mind he acquired an extensive knowledge of events and persons. He seldom failed to recall experiences of pioneer days and the people involved. There were few in the community with whom he was not acquainted. In his business relations he was honest and desired others to be likewise.

Pall-bearers have been chosen from his nephews: Harry,Albert, Otto, Alfred, Franklyn and Ernest Wieman.4

Auguste Bandelin

Mrs. Auguste Bandelin, wife of Martin Bandelin, was born June 7, 1851, in Germany. She came as a young child with her parents to America in 1858. The family lived for a short time in the state of Michigan, and then moved to Minnesota making their home at Henderson. In 1867 the deceased was married to her now bereaved husband, Martin Bandelin. For nearly 40 years they lived on the farm _ mileswest of Arlington, and for the past eight years made their home in Arlington. For some time they were members of the Evangelical Association, and since 1893, when the Methodist church was built in Arlington they were members of this church. Mrs. Bandelin was a good woman. She always had a friendly smile and words of good cheer for everyone. Her many friends will miss her. Besides her husband she leaves 10 children, 33 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her children are: Mrs. Aug. Wiemann and Mrs. John Wiemann, Dryden; Fred Bandelin, Canada; Mrs. Louis Luhring, Arlington; Mrs. Ed. Wiemann, Donnybrook, N.D.; Mrs. Aug. Obernolte, Beamont, Cal.' Mrs. Arthur Maas, Arlington; Geo. Bandelin, Dryden; Alice Bandelin and Harry Bandelin, Arlington. She also leaves a brother in Canada, Mr. Fred Perseke.

In November Mrs. Bandelin visited friends in Canada and a little later in North Dakota. On her arrival home she complained of not being in her usual good health. It soon developed to be a cose (sic) of typhoid fever resulting in perforation and hemorrage of the bowels. The very best of care availed little, and on Monday afternoon, Jan. 10, she passed away. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at one o'clock at the house and at 1:30 at the Methodist church, Rev. W.F. Fritze, officiating.2,6

Obituary in the Arlington Enterprise, 7 April 1938.

Martin Nagel, Well Known Pioneer Dead. Age 76

Martin Nagel, on of Sibley county's best known pioneerrs, passed away Sunday morning (April 3rd) at his home in Arlington township, where he resided with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schneder, on the old homestead. Had he lived until Tuesday (April 5), his birthday would have been 86 years of age. Mr. Nagel had been ailing foe several years with internal cancer and submitted to several operations in the hope of obtaining relief, but to no avail. For the past year it was evident that he was staging a brave but losing battle against the ravages of the dread disease with which he was afflicted.

There is solace, however, in the fact that throughout his illness he apparently suffered but little pain, and he spent his last moments peacefully with the children, whom he loved so dearly, gathered at his bedside. The end came at about 6 o'clock Sunday morning.

Henry Martin Nagel was a son of Philip and Frederica Nagel, (nee Otto), pioneers, who came from Germany in the 50's and settled on a farm a few miles east of the present homestead. Martin was born there on April 5, 1862, and grew to young manhood and spent his entire life in that community. He was baptized on May 18, 1862 in St. John's church of Arlington township and was confirmed there on April 30th 1876. THe same church was the scene of his wedding to Rosina Soefkker on March 2, 1886. He remained a faithful member of that congretation all his life, serviing on the board of elders for 28 years. He also very painstakingly acted as janiotor of the church for a period of 40 years.

Mr. Nagel was bereft of his wife on July 16, 1931, and is survived by eleven children, six daughters and five sons, namely Mrs. J.J. Olson (Anna). Mrs Richard Bethke (Alma), Mrs. E.H. Lieske (Amanda), Mrs. Alfred Lieske (Esther), Mrs. Harry Schneider (Hulda) , Gertrude, Fred, Henry, Arthur and Victor, all residing in this community, and John of Selfridge N. Dak.2,4

Obituary in the Arlington Enterprise on 23 July 1931:

Mrs. M. Nagel, Life-Long Twp. Resident, Dead
Dies After Being Ill But One Day With Pneumonia. Funeral Held Sunday.

Death terminated a long and useful life last Thursday when Mrs. Martin Nagel, a life-long and most highly respected resident of Arlington township passed away. Death came to her after but one day's serious illness with pneumonia. However, she had been ailing with kidney trouble for some time and was in a weakened position.

Mrs. Nagel's maiden name was Rosina Soeffker and she was born in Arlington township on April 6, 1866, reaching the age of 75 years at the time of her death. She was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran church by Prof. Ross in 1880. Her marriage to Martin Nagel was solemnized on March 2, 1885. They took up their residence on the farm in Arlington township where they made their home continuously for more than 45 years. Their union was blessed with eleven children, all of whom, together with her husband, live to mourn the death of a loving and dutiful wife and mother. The children are: Fred, Henry, Mrs. J.J. Olson (Anna), Arthur, Mrs. Richard Bethke (Alma), Mrs. Ernie Lieske (Esther), Helen and Gertrude, all residing in this commuity and John of Selfridge, N. Dak. She is also mourned by three brothers and four sisters: Henry, Ferdinand and Fred Soeffker, Mrs. Chas. Wiehe, Mrs. S. Bade, Mrs. Wm. Nagel and Mrs. B. Nagel, all residents of Arlington.

Deceased was a woman of splendid Christian character who enjoyed the love and esteem of her husband and children and also a wide circle of friends and acquaintances in this community.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon with services at the family home and at St. John's Lutheran church, where Rev. J. Busch and Rev. M.F. Abraham gave splendid eulogies on the life of the deceased. The remains were interred in the cemetery adjoining the church. The following were the pall bearers: Wm. Wiehe, Wm. Bade, John Soeffker, Ernie Soeffker, George Nagel and Walter Nagel. Hundreds of relatives and friends came from a distance to attend the last rites, and these together with the people from the home community made the attendance exceptionally large.13,5,8,6
