Harrison Elliott had started west somewhere, but I do not know where and when the rest of the party got to Council Bluffs, Iowas, Thomas Elliott got a telegram from Harrison Elliott that he would go to Quincy with us. At Quincy, Harrison went into the barter business. He boardd with my mother, my sister, and he. He boarded with us all the time going on two years. His wife was supposed to be at Fremont, Nebr. during that time. I did not know where she was. When he left Quincy, he want to Keoukuk, Iowa. Divorce*15 Oct 1895 Lancaster Co., Nebraska; This divorce was not recognized by the pension bureau because they ruled that it was fraudulently granted because Rebecca Elliott did not receive notice of the divorce, although both spouses appeared to know where the other resided.

Report of J.H. Hines relating to the widow's pension applications for the pension of Harrison Elliott: The sole witness to this divorce [the divorce of Harrison and Rebecca Elliott] was Latta Cochran, evidently meant for Lida Cochran, the sister of Florence. Lida Cochran is now dead.

From Florence [Halterman] Elliott testimony: Well, he [Harrison] said they [Harrison and Rebecca] couldn't get along, that she was always cruel to him or something like that. When he got his divorce in Lincoln, my sister, Lida L. Cochran, was a witness for him. My sister knew him the same length of time I did. I believe that she was the only witness he had. I don't know that she knew at that time where Rebecca was. She knew about his being in jail at Omaha and that Rebecca visited him there. She knew only what I had written to her. She was at Perry, Iowa while he was in jail. She came here the last of Aug. or the first of Sept 1895, and she was here till the latter part of Oct. 1894. She was here on a visit, and never lived here. No, she was not brought here as a witness on this case. It just happened that she came on a visit at that time.; Principal=Rebecca R. Note30 Jun 1896 Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska; Article in the Lincoln Daily News: 30 January 1896:

Harrison Elliott of Lincoln, will not have to answer to the charge of bigamy, a complaint in which was drawn up and signed a few days ago by Mrs. McCormick, the agent of the charity organization. For some time Mrs. DElliott No. 1 has been importunity the county attorney to arrest Elliott, claiming that in 1891 her husband left their home in Greenwood, Cass county, ostensibly to visit some Hawkeye relatives, but instead met a girl named Halterman at Council Bluffs, and since that time they have lived together as man and wife, having one child born to them. The wife in Omaha said she was having a terrible hard time getting along, with a sick daughter and much trouble on hand. Elliott, is seems was married on April 17th last to Miss Halterman, and that he obtained a divorce from his first wife on the 15th of last October. The stories do not jive very well. Elliiott swore that he had married his wife Rebecca in Omaha in 1874, and that she had deserted him four years before, and that he knew not where she was. She says they were married in Illinois twenty years ago. Elliott is said to be an old soldier in poor health with a $24 a month pehnion as his chief support.
Death*21 Dec 1897 Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska; Died suddenly while sitting in a rocking chair... apparently of heart disease. One doctor indicated that he thought Elliott had Bright's disease. His wife and others (but not recorded by the doctors who saw him) reported that he had brain and spinal disease.

Cause of death listed on death certificate: heart failure. Singed by F.J. Merryman, M.D.19
Burial*23 Dec 1898 Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska; Grave 28, Lot GAR, Section 1520

Deposition of Harrison Elliott in March 1894: My third wife was a widow with two children when I married her. She was the widow John Perry. She is living. Her name is Rebecca R. Elliott. Her residence is Fremont, Neb. No sir, I have never secured a divorce from her.

1894. Note*7 Jun 1895 1317 S 6th St, Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska; Age 15, Deposition of Luella H. Elliott on 7 June 1895.

My age is 15, occupation none. I am the daughter of Harrison Ellott. He deserted my mother and brother and sister and myself at Fremont, Dodge Co. Neb., July 13, 1891.

In January 1892, he sent after me. He was then living in Quincy, Ill., and I went to him and I remained with him until July 1894.

He was living with a woman named Florence Halderman as his wife though he was not married to her. Her mother and sister and his nephew John Elliott, were also living in the same house with him during this time. I was with him in QuincY, Ill. John Elliott left Quincy before we did. From Quincy we went to Keokuck Ia. that was in Thanksgiving 1892. Florence Halderman, her mother and sister and my father and I were the family there. We staid in Keokuck until September 1893, when father and I came to Omaha. We left Flornece and her mother and sister in Keokuck but father sent for Florence and the baby the following October. Her mother and sister came in the following December. We all moved into another house but they continued to live with us until May 1894, when the mother and her husband moved into another house.

In April father's brother Thomas came and he lived with us until July 1894, when father went away with Uncle Thomas. He left Florence and the baby behind him but she followed him within a month and I have not seen him or her nor any of the rest of them since then.

During all this time my father and Florence Halderman lived together as man and wife. He never introduced her as his wife but I saw them in bed together frquently and he always said that the baby was his. He called Florence his niece. I staid with them because I had no other home. That was not much of a home but it was that in name.3
