Marriage* | | Principal=Cecilia (?) |

Biography* | | From Peter Stebbins Craig, J.D. 1671 Census of the Delaware:
Olof Nilsson Gästenberg (#65), a Finn from Vårmland County, Sweden, arrived in 1656. His family in 1671 included his wife Cecilia, sons Nils and Eric, and daughters Christina, Maria, and Brita. In 1674 he moved to Tacony where he died in 1692.
From Peter Stebbins Craig, J.D. 1693 Census of the Delaware:
Olof Nilsson, from Letstigen, Värmland, arrived in New Sweden on the Mercurius in 1656 accompanied by his wife. Under Dutch rule, i.e. before 1664, he and five associates were granted a 1,000-acre tract at Marcus Hook, where he still resided in 1671. Soon after this tract was resurveyed by the English on 27 July 1675, Olle Nilsson joined Eric Mullica and Christiern Thomasson in their Talcony settlement, which was surveyed fo 950 acres on 20 Ocober 1675. By 1684 he had chosen the surname of Gästernberg, pronounced "Yestenberry" and spelled erratically in contemporary records. The name may have been derived from gasten, "the ghost," and berg, "mountain." Oluf Nilsson's will, dated 6 April 1692, was proved 17 June 1692. His two sons, Nils and Eric, are shown below (#48-49). His three daughters, as named in Eric's will, were Christina, Maria and Brita, who in 1693 were married to Nils Jonasson (#23), Nils Lycon (#42) and Dirick Johnsson (#52). His wife Cecelia, born in Örebro, Sweden (allegedly in 1619) was buried at Gloria Dei on 26 May 1703.4 |

Initially the Dutch determined not to allow them to leave the ship, but the Lenape Indians in the are surrounded the ship in attempt to get the Swedish to trade goods with them, and in that disruption, the Dutch allowed the ship to sail up to Tinicum Island where the frightened passengers disembarked.4,5 |
