Death* | 22 Oct 1909 | North B Street, Fairfield, Jefferson Co., Iowa; Obituary published in the Fairfield Tribune (Fairfield, Iowa) on Friday, October 29, 1909: William Corr After an illness covering a period of three years, William Corr passed away at his home on Friday afternoon, October 22, 1909. Mr. Corr was the father of Mrs. S. Cornell on East Brulingon street, and had many friends in the city who will mourn his death. He was an old soldier having served in the Civil War. Besides his wife and daughter in this city, he leaves several children, and the bereaved family are receiving the sympathy of many friends in their time of sorrow. To add to the pathos of the case, Mrs. Corr has also been very ill with an attack of heart trouble and the shock of her husband's death comes as a hard blow to her. Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C.L. Tennant, pastor of the First Methodist church of this city. The body was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, the members of the G.A.R. and other old soldiers conducting the services at the cemetery. William Corr was born in Fayette county, Penn., in 1840. When eight years of age he came with his parents to Boneaparte, Iowa, where he grew to young manhood, and in 1859 he enlisted as a volunteer in the Civil war, where he served three years. In 1865 he was married to Miss Mary E. Montgomery. Eight children were born in to Mr. and Mrs. Corr, five of whom survive to mourn the loss of their father, three of them having preceded him to the better world. The surving children are John and Clarence of New Boston, Ill., Samuel and Miss May Corr and Mrs. S. Cornell of this city.2,10 |
