From the Nevada State Journal on 12 July 1952:

Car Hits Truck, Killing Three

Minnesota Family in Tragedy

Las Vegas, July 11 (UPI). A Minneapolis father and two of his children were killed instantly Thursday about 3:30 p.m. when the car in which they were riding smashed into a parked five-ton truck.

Dead were: Donald D. (sic) Dunton, 42, his 10-year-old son Donald, Jr. and his 16-year-old daughter, Betty.

The crash occured near Glendale, Nev. about 80 miles north of here on U.S. Highway 81.

Driver of the death car, Mrs. Florence Dunton, 40, wife of the dead man, was reported in "fair" condition late today in a Las Vegas hospital. Mary Ann Dunton, 6, escaped with minor injuries.

Driving Fast

Police officers said the Dunton machine, apparently traveling at a high rate of speed, crashed into truck with such force that the top of the car was ripped off and bodies scattered along the highway.

It was not known if Mrs. Dunton went to sleep at the wheel or if she did not see the truck. There were no skid markes on the highway.

The huge trailer-truck driven by Louis Younger, 26, Sunladun Calif., had been pulled off the highway for a tire check a few minutes before the mishap occurred.7,8

Biography* Funeral Program for Ruth Semingson

In Memory of Ruth Lois (Hedlund) Semingson

Ruth Lois Hedlund was born on September 21, 1909 in Kerkhoven, Minnesota, the oldest child of August and Josie Hedlund. Her younger sister and only sibling is Jean (Hedlund) Tichy of Mansfield, Connecticut. They later moved to Minneapolis.

Ruth met Harry S. Semingson at a church gathering and the two were married on August 29, 1946. Ruth had no children but was a devoted wife and a step-mother to Michael Harry Semingson. She was also a dedicated employee, first as a buyer for Woolworth's and then in the office at Nordic Ware, of St. Louis Park, where she worked for many years. Ruth loved to sing and especially enjoyed singing while Harry played the piano or the violin. One of her favorite old hymns was "I Come to the Garden Alone."

Ruth and Harry were active members in the early years at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church in Minneapolis, and later at Westwood Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park. After attending the church for many years, they became members of St. Louis Park Evangelical Free Church on July 20, 1981 and became actively involved in the ministries of the church. Ruth and Harry were devoted to reading Scripture together and are remembered by friends and family as reading through the entire Bible each and every year. Harry died on July 4, 1990 and funeral services were held at St. Louis Park Evangelical Free Church.

Ruth was a gentle soul with a kind spirit. She was not one to complain and always found the good in those she met. She was passionate about music and loved to sing. She also enjoyed her adventures going to garage sales and finding fun bargains and unique treasures. Her friends remember Ruth's love for flowers and her love of floral wallpaper, which covered all the walls of her house. Ruth was disciplined and strong, having survived three fights with cancer. To the end she shared words of wisdom, encouragement, and spiritual gems with those that visited her. She was lovingly cared for by those at Solbakken residence in Bloomington until her death. Ruth went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2007 at the age of 98.

Ruth is survived by her sister, Jean Tichy, of Mansfield, Connecticut; by her sister-in-law, Florence Brown, of St. Peter, Minnesota; and by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Josie Hedlund, and her cousins Russell, Donald, and Ralph Hedlund. She made arrangements prior to her death for services to be handled by the Cremation Society of Minnesota. Memorial Serivces have been planned by her church family at St. Louis Park Evangelical Free church, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Internment will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapoilis, where her remains will be buried alongside her husband, Harry.1

In loving memory of my father Arthur E. Petzold, O.D.

Dr. Arthur Petzold died on June 6th, 2014 in his 96th year. He was born in St. Paul, MN and graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry.

After practicing his profession for a year he enlisted in the Army Air Force becoming a pilot on a B-24 bomber during World War II. His crew was a lead crew during the invasion of Europe. He flew 30 combat missions over Germany and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and several air medals.

He married the love of his life, Dottie, during his cadet training. They were married 70 years. He practiced optometry in Eau Claire for over 40 years and took care of generations of families.

He served as president of the Eau Claire Lions Club. He served as a board director of the Wisconsin Optometric Association.

After the war, he stayed in the Air Force Reserve for 23 years while he still practiced his profession. He retired from the Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. He was a Boy Scout Leader for the Air Scouts. He remained an avid golfer all his life and played many courses in foreign countries. He was a member of the Eau Claire Country Club.

His wood working shop was his passion during his retirement years. He was blessed with a very artistic and creative mind, which was evident in his wood working pieces.

He is survived by his wife Dottie, and a daughter Louise and son-in-law Steven Berg. A very special grandson Paul and his wife Robyn and many nieces and nephews. His great grandson Cooper Nelson Berg was his pride and Joy.
