Augustus Washington Maley was born in Harrisville, Richie county,Virgina, February 16, 1832. When 4 years of age, his father's family moved to Warren county, Illinois, settling near Little York. On February 17th, 1864, he was married to Miss Mary Jane Achison of the same place. To this union were born 12 children, six boys and six girls, John A. of Tyler, Minn., Elva L. of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Amy Chamberlain of Mechanicsville, Mrs. Nina Starry of Olin, and William E.,Reed H., Sam A., Matta L., W. Ray, Tressa A., James and Halena, all of this place. In the spring of 1870 Mr. Maley and his family moved to this place and settled on the homestead where Mrs. Maley now resides. At the age of 25 he united, by profession of his faith in Christ, with the Cedar Creek (Ill.) church, under the pasturate of Rev J.C. Porter. At the organization of the church at Little York, he transferred his membership to it becoming one of its charter members. His certificate was placed in church here, the first communion after their arrival.May 29, 1875, he was ordained and installed as elder of the congregation, which position he faithfully filled, and at his death was the senior elder in age and in service. Twice he represented the presbytery of LeClaire as lay delegate to the General Assembly of our church, at its meeting in Cedar Rapids in 1888 and at Philadelphia in 1899. He was very sociable, and made friends with all he met. Was perfectly honest in his business dealings. A kind loving and affectionate husband and father. He was a man of deep religious convictions and adhered to whatever he believed to be right with unyielding firmness. While positive in character he possessed much of the milk of human kindness, and his sympathies reached out toward those who differ from him. There remain to mourn their loss, besides his beloved wife and the children mentioned before, 12 grandchildren; and three sisters and one brother as follows: Mrs. Mary Monteith, Stronghurst, Ill., Mrs. Eliza McCoy, Little York, Ill., Mrs. General T.M. Harris of Harrisville, Virginia, and John H. of Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away Sabbath morning October 16, 1904. The immediate cause of his death was heart failure. The funeral was held from the U.P. Church this morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. S.M. McConnell, the pastor. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community.1,4

Death*6 Nov 1913 Little York, Warren Co., Illinois; Monmouth Review Atlas:

Mrs. Joseph McCoy, one of the oldest residents of Warren County, died at her home in Little York 6 November 1913, following an illness of over a month. Five weeks earlier she had suffered a broken hip and since that time her condition had been serious. She was past 86 years of age and at the time of her accident in early October grave fears were given for her recovery. Her maiden name was Eliza Jane Maley and she was born in West Virginia in 1827 and came to Warren County with her parents early in 1837. Sixty-four years before her death, she was married to Joseph McCoy who preceded her in death several years. To them were born seven children, five of whom survived her. They were Dr. E.E. McCoy of Monmouth, John McCoy of Riverside, California, Agnes and Nettie McCoy at home and Mrs. T. Pierce of Morning Sun, Iowa. The grandchildren from Morning Sun Roy and Hazel Pierce were attending Monmouth College at the time. Mrs. McCoy had been a member of the Little York United Presbyterian Church since its organization and was one of the faithful workers of the congregation. Her funeral was conducted by Reverend H.G. McVey, pastor of the church with burial in the Little York cemetery.2,4
