Silas Barnum Chatfield, Adams, Town of Troy, Walworth County, Wisconsin, died of a massive stroke while having breakfast on February 8, 1908. He was born to Levi Chatfield and Sarah (Sally) Reynolds Chatfield on October 21, 1822, in New Milford, Litchfield County, Connecticut. When he was but two or three years old, the family moved to Chenango County, New York. Here the mother died, when he was but seven years old, and three years later, the father died. Thus, at the age of ten years, he was left to the mercy of the world to care for himself. Lived as a boy in Chenango and Madison counties; He then came to Wisconsin, arriving at Troy, November 1, 1846; married Mary E. Holcomb, December 22, 1849. She died December 31, 1854, leaving two children; Norman Alonzo and Levi Leroy Chatfield. In 1857 he married Catheryn L. Gasper Kling, daughter of Jacob Kling and Dorothy Gasper. There were seven children of this marriage; George, Omer, DeWitt, Jane (Janie), Sarah (Libbie), Alice, and Seneca Chatfield. Silas was very active in building the Adams community from its name, first school, church, creamery and cemetery. Silas was buried in the Adams Cemetery in the Chatfield family lot. |

Chiarella, Angelo J. DELMAR Angelo J. Chiarella, 74, died on September 4, 2008 after a long illness following a series of strokes. Born in the Calabria region of Italy, Angelo immigrated to this country at the age of six with his mother, Maria, to join his father and older brothers in Brooklyn. Angelo graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1952 and was the first member of his family to attend college. He received a degree in architecture from the University of Florida at Gainesville in 1957. While in college, Angelo met Winnifred Balch, and they were married in Manhattan in 1959. Angelo joined Victor Gruen Associates in New York City in 1958. He agreed to serve as head of the field office for the Gruen designed first downtown enclosed mall, Midtown Plaza, in Rochester, N.Y. Angelo subsequently became president of Midtown Holdings Corp., a position he held until his retirement. He was a strong advocate for a vital downtown and his service to the Rochester community, including holding positions as a trustee of Rochester General Hospital, Nazareth College, Casa Italiana, the Strong Museum and as a member of the Board of Directors of Rochester Gas & Electric, Transmation, and McCurdy & Company. He was member of Emeritus of the American Institute of Architects. Winnie and Angelo moved to the Albany area in 2005 after 45 good years in Rochester, N.Y. Angelo is survived by his wife, Winnifred; beloved sons, Tom, Frank and Pete (Nancy); dear grandchildren, Gus, Walter, Cienna, Katherine, Elizabeth, Joseph; and his brother, Alfred (Marilyn) of Delray Beach, Fla. Angelo's sense of humor, quick wit, sharp intellect and generous spirit will be greatly missed by his family, many friends and professional colleagues. He was full of life and gave us all such happy memories. A private family service will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Life Care Center in Guilderland, N.Y. Angelo had resided at Mercy since May of 2006. The family will receive friends and associates at the Genesee Valley Club, 421 East Avenue, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 10. All of us are deeply grateful to the staff at Our Lady of Mercy and Community Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Angelo these last years. In lieu of flowers you may, if you wish, send contributions to Our Lady of Mercy Life Care Center, 2 Mercycare Lane, Guilderland, NY 12084 or Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205. |
