Residence* | bt 1940 - 1960 | Villa Holmia, Göteborg, Sweden; Ulle-Britt Homqvist: Georg, Thore's father, bought Holmia in 1940 and moved in with wife and three sons. He had learnt grafting and bee-keeping from his father. He was immensely interested in bees and very skilful too. He changed the little house to a bee-house and had 30 beehives. He was regarded as an expert. He was skilful with his hands and very good at woodcarving. He played the violin, and very well, says Thore. Sven, the youngest wanted to learn too. He went away to his first lesson and afterwards asked his teacher when he was to come next time. NEVER was the answer.
[Georg] knew a lot about Göteborg and old times and liked to talk about it.
Unfortunately Thore´s parents had to leave their Holmia around 1960. Göteborg expended and small houses had to leave room for big houses. They got a flat in a house built on their land and the old Holmia was pulled down, but the fruit-trees, berry-bushes and the pump were left. There was a very, very big rhododendron that Thore's brother "saved". An excavator dug it up and it was moved to his house, where it was commonly admired, but when he moved he did not dig it up again.1 |

Text from clipped article (probably a Central Lutheran funeral bulletin):
Mrs. J.A.O. Stub, nee Aleda Hooverson, was born March 6, 1881, in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin. Her father served through the Civil War, and after receiving his discharge started a saw mill and logging industry on the Kickapoo river with Atley Peterson, who later became state treasurer of Wisconsin. Mr. Hooverson died in '81, leaving his wife and two daughters, Mabel and Aleda. Mrs. Stub was educated in the public schools of Soldiers Grove and Lutheran Ladies' Seminary, Red Wing, Minn.
Her mother, the two daughters and a foster daughter, Marie, made their home in Soldiers Grove until 1896, when they moved to Red Wing. August 26, 1902, she was married to Rev. J.A.O. Stub, then pastor in Stoughton, Wisconsin. She made her home there until 1917, when Mr. Stub resigned from his pastorate to become executive secretary for the National Lutheran Commission for Soldiers' and Sailors' Welfare, with offices in New York. The family lived in New York until the summer of 1919, when they moved to Minneapolis, where Dr. Stub had accepted the call to the newly established Central Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Stub had been failing for over three years; the last nine months especially.
She leaves beside her husband, daughters Didrikke, Mrs. J.C. Lysen of Benson, Minn., and Ann Elizabeth, all born in Stoughton, and Jack, born in New York. She also leaves her mother, Mrs. Bertha Hooverson, and sister Marie, both of St. Paul.
Mrs. Stub was a member of Central Lutheran's Woman's Guild, and Fairview and Ebenezer auxiliaries. She was also a member of the Hennepin County Child Welfare Board, and until the last six months served as chairman of the Mothers' Allowance Committee.
Her departure from this life came peacefully and quietly the evening of June 13, in the presence of her husband, children, mother and sister. She was entirely conscious up until the very last.
She herself made all the arrangements for her funeral services.
She passed away very calmly and unafraid, in the Christian's blessed hope of eternal life through Jesus Chirst our Savior.
Blest be her memory! |

College Avenue, was united in marriage to Dr. Jens Ohnstad of Minneapolis, MN. The church was tastefully decorated with foliage and the center aisle was carpeted in white, on which were scattered autumn leaves whose bronze, crimson and gold tints lent charm to the scene. Four young ladies graciously ushered the guests to their seats: Misses Clara Allen, Lydia Littethun, Mabel Hanson and Helen Diers. At 7:40 to the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march, played by Bernard Boxrud, the ushers lead the way up the leaf-strewn aisle and were followed by bridesmaids, Henrietta Boxrud, Agnes Nash of Hopkins, MN., Rachel Ohnstad of Minneapolis, Amalie Erickson of Mabel, MN., Ellen Mikkelson of Ferryville, Wi, and Marie Hooverson, sister of the bride. Next after the bridesmaids came the matron of honor, Mrs. J. A. Stub, sister of the bride. Didrikke Stub, niece of the bride and Nora Strom acting as flower bearers, preceded the bride who was escorted to the alter by her uncle J. C. Hooverson. The groom, attended by his best man, Josias Ohnstad, met the bride at the altar and they took their places at the center with the best man on the groom's right and matron of honor at the left. The six bridesmaids, three of whom stood on either side, completed the group. A hymn was sung by the assembled guests, and after speaking briefly, Rev. H. G. Stub, D.D., of St. Paul, pronounced the marriage vows to which the bride and groom responded. After the benediction and singing of a hymn, Bernard Boxrud played Mendelson's wedding march, and the procession now headed by the newly married pair, moved down the aisle and out of the church, where carriages were in waiting. A reception was given at home which some seventy-five guests were present. A three course supper was happily served by four young ladies -- Misses Alma and Selma Lane, Nellie Allen and Agnes Simmons. The decorations at the house were pink and white. The bride wore French lawn trimmed with Valenciennes lace. Her only ornament was a brooch, which her grandmother had worn at her own wedding. The out of town guests were: L. Ohnstad, J. Ohnstad, Miss Rachel Ohnstad and Rev. and Mrs. Jerdee and daughter, Lila, Minneapolis, MN., Dr. and Mrs. H. G. Stub, St. Paul; T. N. J. Auto Accident. Karsten Ohnstad: My mother was killed in a car accident when I was five. ============
The Thirteen Towns (Fosston, Minnesota) 7 September 1917:
Mrs. Ohnstad Killed Fatal Automobile Accident East of Lengby
Lengby, Sept. 5. - A tragic automobile accident happpened early this afternoon at a sharp turn in the road east of Lengby about three miles when the car belonging to and driven by Dr. J.O. Ohnstad of McIntosh overturned, crushing Mrs. Ohnstad beneath the steering wheel and causing her death.
The doctor was also pinned under the car until assistance arriveed and suffered severe bruises and cuts, but no serious wounds. The other occupents of the car, Mrs. Ohnstad's sister, Miss Marie Hooverson, and Dr. and Mrs. Ohnstad's two boys, escaped unhurt.
The party were on a pleasure trip from their home in McIntosh to Rev. L.J. Jerdee's home as Cass Lake. At this particular place in the road the approach to the turn is down a rather steep grade, with an abupt turn to the north half way down the hill. At this turn the car skidded and rolled down the bank with the above awful result.
Help was secured from a farm a half a mile distant, but when Mrs. Ohnstad was taken from beneath the wreck it was found that she was dead. Henry and Clarence Kampstad brought the party into Lengby and doctors summoned from Fosston and Bagley soon arrive and cared for the injured doctor, who later was taken back to McIntosh by Dr. Turnbull.
Several cars carrying relatives and friends droved up from McIntosh as soon as they learned of the accident.
Something should be done immediately to make this road more safe at the point where the wreck occurred. It is a dangerous place for starngers driving unacquainted with the sharpness of the turn.

Marriage* | 1909 | Kickapoo Scout, November 4, 1909: Last Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, at the Kickapoo Synod Church, was solemnized the marriage of Tell Chester Hooverson to Miss Martha Stevelingson, in the presence of about two hundred relatives and invited guests. At the appointed hour the couple took their place under an arch decorated with similax, to the strains of a wedding march played by Prof. Skogstad. Rev. Smeby, pastor of the church, pronounced the ceremony in an impressive manner. The bride and groom were attended by Misses Nora Peterson and Martha Sherrer as bridesmaids, and Dave Stevelingson, brother of the bride, and Clarence Hooverson, brother of the groom as groomsmen. After the ceremony the guests repaired to the home of C.D. Stevelingson where a reception was held after which an elegant wedding dinner was served. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Stevelingson. She was charmingly gowned in a princess of cream messaline satin, trimmed with embroidered chiffon, ribbon and cream applique and wore a veil of illusion and carried pink carnations. The bridesmaids were daintily gowned in white and carried a bouquet of roses. The groom is the youngest son of Mrs. Bertha Hooverson. A fine array of valuable and useful presents attest to the esteem of their many friends. They will go to housekeeping on the groom's farm near Pine Knob and they have the best wishes of a large circle of friends for a bright and prosperous future.; Principal=Martha Stevlingson1 |

Supplement to Stocking Ancestry 1909:
It is thought by some genealogists that John Hopkins, son of Stephen [Dx: Samuel??], of Mayflower fame, died young, and, therefore unmarried. others assert that Stephen [Dx: Samuel??] has a 2nd John, of whom Bethia was the granddaughter. It is probably best to consider the lienage of Bethia uncertain.1,4 |
Married Name | | Steele1 |
Birth | 1635 | 3 |
Birth* | 1641 | Hartford, Connecticut, USA; In the absence of records there is conclusive proof that Bethiah was born after the family removed to Hartford. Governor Wintrhop attended her child in 1669, and the entry in his Journal reads: "Bethia Stockin about 28 years, wife of Stockin of Middletown, child of about one month old" (p 926). In March 1697-98, "Bethiah Steele, 57 years of age or thereabouts" made a deposition in the Hartford court concerning the will of her first husband. (Probate court Record, pp. 44-45, Mawaring, 1:587) Twenty-nine years intervened between these statements, but both are in agreement that she was born in 1641.
According to an article in The American Genealogist by Robert Charles Anderson, FASG, the long held belief that Bethia Hopkins married Samuel Stocking at age 11 was due to a misdated deposition in a probate proceeding. (TAG, Vol. 77, No. 1, January 2002).2 |
Marriage* | 27 May 1652 | Hartford, Connecticut; Note that it seems that Bethia married at the age of eleven and had her first child when she was only thirteen.; Principal=Samuel Stocking2,3,1,5 |
