Her grandmother Anna was a cousin to Bama's mother. Finally Elsa she also stayed in Sweden married and got a son named Eirk. He lives in a town, Karlskoga, in Värmland. He has sent pictures too.3

There were other Swedes who were also bound for Brainerd: Nils Olaf (33), Emma (25) , Wilhelm (3) and Bror (2) Lindberg and Johan August Jonson, an unmarried worker, age 20.8
Immigration12 Jul 1902 Quebec, Canada; Passenger in steerage on the S.S. Tunisian, which departed Liverpool, England on 3 July and arrived in Quebec, Canada on 12 July. There were 186 passengers. In the Liljendahl group (all born in Sweden and heading for Brainerd, MN) were: Margreta Liljendahl 49; Anna Liljendahl 20, dau; Hilda Liljendahl 11, dau; Nils Sundberg 33, lab; Emma Sundberg 25, wife; Wilhelm 3, child; Bror 2, child. It's not clear whether the Sundberg's and Liljendahls had a connection other than the fact that they were both bound for Brainerd.

Death*17 Apr 1919 997 Matilda, Saint Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota, USA; Death certificate lists cause of death as Exhaustion with a contributory cause of Broncho pneumonia and says that there were no other complications or other diseases.

The death certificate indicates that she had only been living in the county for 3 months and, since her husband was still living in Brainerd...it a logical guess that she was living with her son's family in Saint Paul as a result of her illness.2

Johanna Mathilda (Peterson) Thoren
Name Variation Thorene2
Married Name Thoren
Birth*Mar 1859 Sweden3
Marriage*1881 Stillwater, Washington Co., Minnesota, USA; Although Elias' obit says that they were married in 1881 in Stillwater - census records suggest that Mathilda didn't actually immigrate until sometime between 1882 and 1885. The 1900 census indicates that she had been married 16 years... which would put her marriage circa 1884.

I checked marriage records in Washington Co., MN for the years 1881-1884 and did not find it.; Principal=Elias Johanessen Thoren3,4,1
Immigration*bt 1882 - 1885 Estimate of immigration date is difficult to make due to conflicting evidence. 1895 census says she was 12 years in the state. 1900 says she immigrated in 1882 and had been in the US for 17 years. In 1920 the census says she immigrated in 1885.

Note* 2
Employment* Saint Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota, USA; Gateman at Union Railway Depot in St. Paul for more than 20 years.3,4
Name Variation Petersson
Name Variation Olaf Anton; The preferred spelling of Olaf vs. Olof is difficult to discern in the records, which are usually hand-written. When Olof Anton signed his citizenship papers, the 2nd "o" in Olof appears similar to the" o" in "Anton" and the "o" in "Peterson"... so that may be the way he actually spelled it himself. His death certificate and the church records in St. Paul (both handwritten and not completely unambiguous) appear to spell it "Olaf."
Name Variation Johansson; In the Göteborg parish records, Olof is indexed under Petersson, but a notation is made about his alternate surname, "Johansson".5
Birth1832 Uddevalla, Sweden; This 1832 birthdate is quite different from the 1841 reported on his death certificate and from that inferred by the reported age at death in his obituary.3
