Mrs. Inga Terina Nelson
Mrs. Inga Terina Nelson was born to Thore and Bertha Thompson July 12, 1890,in the town of Spring Lake. She was confirmed in the Spring Lake Lutheran church by Rev. Kvaase, who served as pastor of the congregation for many years.
After finishing the grades at Elmwood, she attended the Dunn County Agricultural School, graduating from the domestic science course in 1909. After finishing this course she was engaged for a few years as clerk in the S. Rice general merchandise store at Elmwood.
Sept. 22, 1915, she married Gustav Nelson, who at that time operated a blacksmith shop in Elmwood. Four children were born to them, all of whom survive: Ruth 11, Ester 8, Galen 6 and Glen 4. Mrs. Nelson's father died July 14, 1911, and about five years later Mr. Nelson bought the Thompson farm from Andrew Johnson. Since that time Mr. Nelson and family have made their home there.
About four weeks ago Mrs. Nelson caught a bad cold, which developed into pneumonia, followed by other complications. In order to give her the best of care she was taken to St. John's hospital in St. Paul on May 18. At first some hope was entertained for her recovery, but after a couple of days her condition took a decided turn for the worse. On Saturday, May 21, she expressed a desire to see her pastor, Rev. Berven, and he and Mrs. Berven drove to St. Paul. They found her very low, but she was conscious. The next morning about 8 they called again, but she was then breathing her last. Funeral was held from the home and the Spring Lake church Thursday, May 26, Rev. Berven officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Spring Lake cemetery.
Besides her husband and four children she leaves to mourn her early untimely death two younger sisters - Mrs. John Sand, of Boyceville, and Mrs. Alvin Feldman, of Bay City. Mrs. Thompson, her mother, died at Chippewa Falls April 22, 1926. |

Spring Valley Sun, July 4, 1946
Mrs. Ole Jacobson
Mrs. Thora Jacobson was born to Thore Thoreson and wife Ingrid Folden in Alvdal, Norway on Oct. 30, 1869. At the age of 17 she came to America with two brothers and a sister settling at Wilson.
On May 5, 1891 she was married to Ole Jacobson. The young couple set up housekeeping at Glenwood City, where they resided for 9 years, then moved onto their farm in the Town of Spring Lake, which has been their home since then. Seven children were born to them, four of whom survive: Olga, (Mrs. Carl Magnuson) of Minneapolis, Lenora, (Mrs. Arthur Jacobson), Phillip, and Orval all of Spring Valley. The three oldest children preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jacobson has been an invalid for many years and for the last 12 years she has been confined to a wheelchair. She has, how ever been able to do her work until a year ago in February, when she suffered a stroke, which left her right side partially paralyzed. About a month ago, she developed a slight cold from which it was hoped she would soon recover, but her condition took a sudden turn for the worse and Tuesday, noon, June 25, she passed away, reaching the age of 76 years, 7 months and 25 days.
Besides her husband and four children, she is survived by 5 grandchildren, one great grandchild; she also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Pederson of Emerald, a brother John Thompson of San Diego, CA., a half brother Knute, in Norway and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was held Friday, June 28 at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Rev. Berven officiating. Burial was in Spring Lake Cemetery. |
